#181 To know God is…

…To be Able to Share His Message

When you know God you know what is important to Him and why. Who are the people God has spoken to and highlighted for us in the Bible? What did Jesus say about…? What does God think of you and your choices? What is God’s Message? If someone asks you about God you ought to be able to speak about Him for hours. You should know God better than your own wife or your favorite football team. When you know who God is, you do not keep it to yourself but rather share Him with everyone you meet. God is not some thing to be hoarded.

…To know God is to know His Words

When you know God you know what He has said. The Bible is the gift of God to the Church. Yet we ought not to let it become a crutch. What do you know about God without checking your notes? You must be able to know the Word of God well enough to say yes or no when someone says something is God’s Word. Such as when Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. The devil recited Scripture and Christ corrected Him. When you face a trial and the Bible is not in hand will your faith fall apart? I truly ask myself this. I do not want to be tested and found wanting. The more you know about God the more He will use you. If you cannot recite and understand His Word, how can He use you? The answer seems clear to me.

…To know God is to be like Him

When you know who God is, you cannot help but to be changed and to become more like Him. 1 John 5:3 clearly says, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” Loving God involves a love and willing submission to His commandments. Even the ones that you do not understand or like.
