#177 The Two Most Important Questions
Do you know God and does He know you?
These are two of the most important questions a person may ever ask themselves. It is an ongoing pointed question that cuts to the heart of who you are.
As Christians we may believe that we know who God is. Our experience seems to speak for itself, making the question mute. Rather we must ask ourselves what does it mean to know God. The simplistic answer to know that God died on the cross for your sins and rose again and to accept this gift is true but is the answer I might expect from a child. You who are grown, who does it mean to know God? If you know a person you would be able to answer most any question about that person. You would be able to tell stories of your time together that illustrate your relationship. The inability to convey this level of relationship with your God is a serious concern.
Knowing God
If you know God that will be many indicators in your life and within yourself that may give you confident assurance of your salvation and what’s more your relationship with Christ. You do His will. You have stories to tell about how God has changed your life, you are not who you once were. You are able to share God with others in your life and you want to share Him. You do not have a spirit of fear but rather a spirit of faith in God. You know the Bible. You are striving to be like God. You are in pursuit of God in every realm of your life. And you keep His commandments. Together these things give you a relatively complete picture of what knowing God looks like. Knowing God is an ongoing redemptive process that will not be finished in this life.
God Knowing You
The other question which is even more important than the first is does God know you? We cannot work our way to God. It is only by God's will that we may know Him at all. Does God know you? You may work your whole life in service to God yet in the end He may say depart from me for I never knew you.
